The First Annual Spirit of the Skate fundraising event generated $43,300 towards the BC Sports Hall of Fame's on-line education program the Hero In You®.

Presented by the Province of British Columbia and ActNowBC, the event, emceed by Jay Janower, was attended by over one hundred guests who participated in a unique auction to bid on "painted skates". Using actual figure skates as their canvas, local artists, skating champions, and personalities created unique pieces of art that were auctioned off at the event. Highlights include the painted skates of recording artist Bif Naked; First Nation Artist Connie Watts; figure skating champions Karen Magnussen, Victor Kraatz, Emanuel Sandhu and many more. The Spirit of the Skate and the exhibit Canada at Play: BC ON ICE would not have been possible without the support of the Province of British Columbia and ActNow BC.
