A UNIQUE OLYMPIC/PARALYMPIC EXPERIENCE

In January 2008, we partnered with the City of Vancouver, the Vancouver School Board, SportFit, Skate Canada and the BMO Canadian Figure Skating Championships to bring Hero in You ® to over 1,000 students. Incorporating the story of Karen Magnussen, silver medalist, artifacts from our figure skating collection (Karen Magnussen, Victor Kraatz, Tracy Wilson), on-site programming at the BMO National Figure Skating Championships and on site Hero in You ® programming, students experienced a once in a lifetime opportunity to connect the values of sport with goal setting and personal planning exercises.

Teachers were provided with a pre-event Hero in You ® educational kit that included resource materials to introduce students to the values and sport of figure skating. The content profiled the story of Karen Magnussen and her journey to becoming a silver medalist.

The BC Sports Hall of Fame is proud to be housed within BC Place Stadium, home to the Opening and Closing Ceremonies as well as the nightly medal celebrations for the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. The BC Sports Hall of Fame celebrates the Olympic and Paralympic Games in the following ways:
