EDUCATIONHero In You® Website

When children are exposed to the inspiring stories of athletes who come from the same cultural or economic backgrounds as them, they begin to imagine what they can do and how they to can make a difference. Our curriculum-linked educational programs incorporate goal setting, personal planning, physical education and ways in which students can make meaningful contributions to their communities.

Our collection is the foundation for the activities and programs delivered by the BCSHFM. Since 2007, BCSHFM has been working with community partners to celebrate the spirit of the 2010 Winter Games. Working with community partners we continue to provide a unique Olympic/Paralympic educational experience for members of our community.

The BCSHFM offers extensive educational field trips like Hero In You Tour®, Terry Fox Tour, Olympic Inspirations® and Big Moments in BC Sport®, where curriculum-based educational and inspirational lesson plans incorporate athletes’ stories of persistence, dedication and commitment to inspire future generations. The Terry Fox Tour and “Hero In You Tour®” are extremely popular with teachers as they tie directly into our on Hero In You Tour® on-line modules. We pride ourselves in providing access to our collection and the stories of our athletes to over 1,300 teachers throughout BC and across Canada who are registered to access the on-line modules, and to reach over 39,000 students throughout B.C.

Through video clips, on- line tools and activities, students learn many lessons, such as:
• The courage to overcome setbacks from Karen Magnussen
• The power of play from Silken Laumann
• The importance of social responsibility from Daniel Igali
• Having the confidence to make dreams become a reality from Nancy Greene Raine.
