CATEGORIES

1. Athlete
• Any athlete (able bodied or an athlete with a disability) who has attained a high level of excellence and brought recognition or honour to British Columbia sport on a national or international level in relation to participation in open level sport(s) competition
• A B.C. member of a Canadian Team may stand for induction as an individual athlete
• An individual is not eligible for nomination until three (3) years following retirement from open level sport(s) competition, except in the event of death or by winning an Olympic or a World championship gold medal whereby the nomination is eligible for immediate consideration
• An individual retired for a period of three (3) years from open level sport(s) competition, but still competing in Seniors or Masters Competition is eligible for consideration.

2. Builder (Including Referee, Coach, Administrator)
• Attained a high level of excellence and made a significant contribution to the enjoyment or knowledge of sport in British Columbia through the medium of print, radio, television or any similar form of medium reporting sport nationally or internationally.

3. Pioneer (Individual or Team)
• Attained a high level of excellence and brought honour to British Columbia sport during the period 50 years prior to the current year, while exhibiting a “pioneering” quality in athletic accomplishments.
• Exception to the 50-year clause is made in the case of individuals or teams in more recently developed sports that have some “pioneering” quality to their accomplishments.
• Teams in the Pioneer category are selected for their achievements in one year that best represents a team’s accomplishments over a larger era.
• Junior and Minor League athletes or teams are not eligible for induction in the Pioneer category.

4. Media
• Must have attained a high level of excellence and made a significant contribution to the enjoyment or knowledge of sport in British Columbia through the medium of print, radio, television or any similar form of medium.

5. Team
• Any team (consisting of able bodied or athletes with disabilities) that has attained a high level of excellence and brought recognition or honour to British Columbia sport at a national or international level in relation to open level competition. Team members are recognized as part of a team and not as an individual Honoured Member.
• The B.C. members of a Canadian Team, which has reached special excellence on a national or international level, may be nominated and inducted as a group in the Team category.
• Teams are selected for achievements in one year, not an era.
• A team is not eligible for nomination until three (3) years following the year, which a team is nominated for except by winning an Olympic or a World championship gold medal whereby the nomination is eligible for immediate consideration. For example, the 1997 Vancouver Canucks would be eligible to be nominated for the 2000 induction class.
• Junior and Minor League teams are not eligible for induction in the Team category.

6. WAC Bennett Award
• This special recognition award is presented from time to time to an individual who has made a significant contribution to sport in British Columbia, but who would not otherwise qualify for induction into the BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum.
• The candidate must exemplify good character and dedication, and provide inspiration to present and future generations.
