SCHOOL FIELD TRIPS

The BC Sports Hall of Fame offers a wide variety of fieldtrips for both schools and community groups. Ideal for Grades 4 through 10, our fieldtrips combine guided and self-guided tours plus interactive exploration in a dynamic venue for both students and educators.

Field trip themes include:

  • Big Moments in BC Sport®

Field trips are two hours and include time in our Participation Gallery where students may test their own athletic abilities on a running track,climbing wall, multi-sport simulator and more. Prepare for your fieldtrip by downloading Hero In You® lesson plans that support the BC curriculum requirements. Hero In You® themes include History and Heroes®, Olympians, In Her Footsteps….Celebrating Women in Sport®, and Aboriginal Sport. Book your field trip today! Due to the popularity of our programs we suggest including alternate dates. Please have the following information ready:

FIELD TRIPS

Olympic Inspirations® Tour

Get ready for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games by celebrating the incredible accomplishments of British Columbian athletes from previous Olympic and Paralympic Games. Using the artifact collection and exhibits of over 50 BC Olympic medalists; students will complete an Olympic Inspirations® Scavenger Hunt, an Olympian biography and complete a mini-Olympic challenge in the Participation Gallery.

Artifact Highlights

  • Olympic torch – Calgary 1988 and Montreal 1976
  • 1912 Silver medal – First individual Olympic medal won by a BC male athlete
  • 148 Olympic/Paralympic textile artifacts (blazers, singlets, track suits etc)
  • 56 Olympic/Paralympic medals (commemorative and competition)

Terry Fox Tour

Inspire your students with the Terry Fox Tour. The fieldtrip highlights the story of the Marathon of Hope and has students learning from the only permanent gallery dedicated to this great Canadian Hero. After their visit, your students will be asked to think about Terry’s unique story and how they can use the lessons learned to achieve their personal goals. In small groups your class investigates various aspects of the Marathon of Hope and present to each other what they learned. As a class, students trace Terry’s monumental journey across Canada.

Big Moments in BC Sport®

This fieldtrip celebrates the big moments (so far) in BC Sport History. Students will learn about BC’s first and second Stanley Cup victories, Percy William’s double gold Olympic victory and how this young 18 year old helped to put Vancouver on the international map, why the ’54 Miracle Mile is still considered one of the best sporting events ever, the BC Lions’ first Grey Cup win and more. After the tour the students’ Big Moments in BC Sport® knowledge will be tested by playing a giant trivia game.

Hero In You® Tour

The Hero In You® Tour is the ideal way to inspire and educate. The fieldtrip includes a tour of 14 History Galleries focusing on the stories and lessons of our Hero In You® athletes (Rick Hansen, Lori Fung, Debbie Brill to name a few). Students will learn about the courage to come back (Karen Magnussen), the importance of social responsibility (Daniel Igali) and the power of play (Silken Laumann).

The story of Rick Hansen is showcased in the Rick Hansen Gallery, which has recently been renovated to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the completion of the Man In Motion Tour. One of the museum’s largest collections, Rick’s Man in Motion wheelchair, competitive wheelchair marathon medals and world tour memorabilia and footage are on display. They continue to teach us that heart, passion and character are the most important strengths any athlete can have.
